Anthony Manu
Biography
Anthony Manu studied Dutch, French and Spanish literature and linguistics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His first MA thesis designed a methodology for a humorous reading of François HaverSchmidt’s Snikken en grimlachjes (1867). His second thesis developed a model for the valorisation of a literary text based on the fact that it communicates what is perceived as factual information and applied this model to two sacramental autos by Calderón. Manu is presently a PhD-candidate at the VUB. His research project “Towards a model for humour in nineteenth-century poetry - A conceptual study and an analysis of a growing subjectivity”, funded by the FWO, aims to create a model for humour in nineteenth-century poetry based on current models for textual humour.
