Michael Rosenfeld
Biography
After finishing my PhD in Francophone literature at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and the Université catholique de Louvain in 2020, I obtained a one year postdoctoral fellowship at the Université libre de Bruxelles (2021-2022). In October 2022, I started a junior postdoctoral FWO research fellowship at the Centre for Literary and Intermedial Crossings, under the supervision of Prof. David Gullentops. My research project analyses the transnational collaborative strategies of queer intellectuals, such as Jean Lorrain, André Gide, Georges Eekhoud, Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen and Jacob Israël De Haan, in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. I will focus on how they worked together between 1885 and 1910 in order to influence attitudes towards same-sex love in their publications. I have published articles on French novelist Émile Zola, on queer Belgian author Georges Eekhoud, as well as original archival material, such as a revealing Italian queer autobiography from 1889/1896. Previously published in censored versions only, I published the first complete edition based on the manuscript in 2017, which was recently translated to English and published by Columbia University Press in July 2022.
