CLIC member Michael Rosenfeld edited the open access special issue 'Intellectuel·les queer. Collaborations (1880-1920)' of Sextant, the gender and sexuality journal of the Université libre de Bruxelles.
The issue contains articles from the 'Collaborations entre intellectuel·le·s queer 1880-1920' conference, held at ULB on 4-5 May 2022, with funding from CLIC.
The issue contains an introduction and ten articles which study how a new awareness of queer love developed across Europe around 1880, which generated an appetite among the intellectuals who shared these desires to talk about and legitimize them. These “reverse discourses”, as Michel Foucault calls them, took different forms: literary and artistic works, magazine and newspaper articles, scientific studies and the formation of networks. The sociability between queer intellectuals led to collaborations that are explored in the articles in this special issue.
All the articles are available open access on Openedition.
