Biography
After completing a master’s degree in Visual Arts at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, Stefan Clappaert studied Dutch and French Literature and Linguistics at Ghent University, where he wrote an MA thesis on the art criticism of Charles Baudelaire and specifically the author’s predilection for traditional painting. He is currently a PhD candidate and assistant in Dutch Literature at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. His PhD study investigates the art criticism written by twentieth-century Flemish poets. It stresses the continual importance of the visual arts for authors like Karel van de Woestijne, Paul van Ostaijen, Maurice Gilliams, Hugo Claus and Roland Jooris.
