Biography
Wenfeng Zhou is a PhD student in Literary Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in religious studies. Currently, he conducts research on a diary related to Buddhism called The Record of a Pilgrimage to China in Search of the Law. This diary reports the experience of the Japanese monk Ennin during his study and travel in the Tang Dynasty of China, with special attention to the largest anti-Buddhist movement in the history of the Tang Dynasty, known as the Huichang Persecution of Buddhism. This research aims at studying the causes behind the Huichang Persecution from the perspective of spatial analysis or literary geography.
