Maria Helena Lima

Maria Helena Lima is a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the State University of New York at Geneseo (USA). Her scholarship and teaching focus on the Black British, the Caribbean, and Women’s Studies. Her publications include “The Politics of Teaching Black and British,” in Black British Writing (Palgrave 2004), “‘Pivoting the Center’: The Fiction of Andrea Levy” in Kadija George (ed.), Write Black British: from Post-Colonial to Black British Literature (Hansib Books 2005), entries on Andrea Levy, Dorothea Smartt, and Meera Syal in the Dictionary of Literary Biography 347 (2009), and on Merle Collins in The Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century Fiction Volume on World Fiction (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010). She has published an essay on The Long Song in a special issue of Entertext devoted to Andrea Levy’s fiction. She’s currently participating in an ​AHRC Grant project and editing a volume of criticism on contemporary Black Atlantic Neo-slave narratives.
