Roy Sommer
Biography
Roy Sommer is Professor of English at the University of Wuppertal (Germany). He serves as the director of the Center for Graduate Studies, a cross-faculty institution, and is a founding member of the interdisciplinary Center for Narrative Research at the University of Wuppertal. He also is co-editor of DIEGSIS, the first interdisciplinary journal dedicated to narrative research that provides free online access to full-text articles and reviews. Roy Sommer has published widely in the areas of multicultural fiction, literary theory and film studies, with a focus on narratology and narratological approaches. He is the author of Fictions of Migration: Ein Beitrag zu Theorie und Gattungstypologie des zeitgenössischen interkulturellen Romans in Großbritannien (2001), a narratological study of Black and Asian British writing, and several articles on the subject (see below). He is currently working on a book on cross-cultural narrative that proposes a pragmatic approach to black British writing.
