16th Annual CLIC Day
Writing and Listening as Artistic Inquiry
Perspectives from Artistic Research and the Humanities
Organising Committee: Kurt Bertels, Tiago Da Silva, Ellen Gillard, Inge Pieters, Hannah Van Hove
The Centre for Literary and Intermedial Crossings (CLIC) is pleased to announce the call for papers for its 16th annual CLIC Day symposium, which will take place on Friday 11 December 2026, at the Brussels Institute for Advanced Studies (BrIAS).
Under the theme "Writing and Listening as Artistic Inquiry: Perspectives from Artistic Research and the Humanities," this year's symposium explores how writing and listening function as practices of artistic inquiry. It invites reflection on the ways in which these practices shape attention, engagement and knowledge production, while fostering dialogue between artistic research, literary studies and the wider humanities.
The organising committee welcomes proposals from scholars, artists and scholar-artists whose work engages with writing, listening and artistic research. Suggested topics include hybrid and creative-critical writing, listening as artistic methodology, archival practices, multimodal research outputs, documentation and dissemination, and other intersections between artistic practice and critical reflection.
Contributions may take the form of individual papers, panel discussions, case-study presentations, posters, or artistic presentations accompanied by critical reflection. Presentations may be delivered in English, Dutch or French.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 30 August 2026. Applicants are invited to submit an abstract (maximum 300 words) and a short biography (approximately 100 words) to ellen.gillard@vub.be and kurt.bertels@vub.be.
Selected contributions will be considered for publication in the Journal for Literary and Intermedial Crossings (JLIC) following the symposium.
For a detailed description of the symposium theme, the full list of suggested topics, submission guidelines and presentation formats, please consult the full Call for Papers here (PDF).
