On Friday 28/04, we invite you to a Meet & Greet with Dr. Eva Ulrike Pirker (Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf).
Dr. Pirker is a visiting lecturer at the department of English Literature, in the context of Prof. Bekers' MA-course 'Contemporary Literature in English'.
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Pirker received an ERC consolidator grant for the project Meritocracy and Literature: Transcultural Approaches to Hegemonic Forms (MERLIT) in 2022. MERLIT looks at the reciprocal relationship between meritocratic narratives and literary forms - across five centuries and several Anglophone contexts. ERC-grants are competitive research grants from the European Research Council, distributed on the basis of scientific excellence. There are five types of grants for which both novice and established researchers can apply, as long as your proposal features "high risk, high gain" research (for more information on the types of grants, click here).
Considering the impact ERC-research grants can have on Belgian research groups, CLIC invites you to join Dr. Pirker for a conversation about the application process. In a short presentation, Dr. Pirker will briefly introduce the research project and then she will discuss the particulars of the process of applying for an ERC-grant. Afterwards, everyone is invited to ask Dr. Pirker their questions over a drink and a bite.
Dr. Pirker's research and teaching at HHU are situated in the fields of Anglophone Studies and Translation Studies. She has a decided interest not only in the ‘translation’ of concepts across cultural contexts, but also in the questions of how concepts and the perception of experiences change and evolve over time – and how literature becomes both a vehicle and agent in such processes. Contextually, much of her research to date explores literary and artistic production in the Atlantic world: Britain, Africa and the Americas. Aside from her research and teaching responsibilities, she curates the programme at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Translation Studies (U Düsseldorf).
The informal lunch presentation will take place in room 5C04 at 12:30 (Profzaal, Veragderzaal LW) and catering will be provided.
Would you like to join us for this conversation over a drink and a bite?
