MERLIT researcher Prof. dr. Eva Ulrike Pirker will be giving a lecture on ‘Art and the “Rise of the Meritocracy” in the Twilight of Empire: Fragile Networks across the Anglophone Black Atlantic World’ on Thursday 20 November 2025 at the Goethe University, Frankfurt.
Prof. Pirker’s lecture sheds light on the artist’s place during the early 20th Century interregnum period whilst the British Empire was in decline. She draws on three case studies focusing on artists and writers Donald Locke, Selby Mvusy and Denis Williams.
