The MERLIT Team congratulates visiting professor and senior associate researcher, Prof. Suzanne Scafe on the publication of her new book, Reading to Resist: Contemporary Black British Women's Writing (Routledge, 2025).
Reading to Resist... explores how Black British female writers potentially co-construct contemporary discourses through their works. Prof. Scafe reflects on novels by internationally-renowned authors such as Diana Evans, Buchi Emecheta and Zadie Smith as well as lesser-known writers like Yvette Edwards and Jacqueline Walker.
