Mona Thibaut
Biography
Mona Thibaut holds a BA in Linguistics and Literary Studies in the languages Dutch and English at Vrije Universiteit Brussel with high distinction and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Literature. She completed an exchange semester at the University of Warwick studying English and Comparative Literature, where she earned the Warwick Award in recognition of her engagement in professional development activities.
During her studies, Thibaut conducted research on Flemish neo-avant-garde writer Lucienne Stassaert, focusing on the experimental poetry in Fossiel (1969). In her second bachelor’s project, she examined the role of crime fiction and the effects of the confessional narration, in Sara Collins’s neo-slave narrative The Confessions of Frannie Langton (2019).
Her research interests include narratology, experimental and speculative fiction, identity construction, and the interplay of society and art, with a particular focus on twentieth-century and contemporary literature. Currently, she is working on a master’s thesis under supervision of Professor Arvi Sepp, in which she is examining the diary as a narrative device in dystopian fiction, exploring how diary writing shapes identity formation, constructs memory, and functions as an act of resistance.
By participating in the Talent for Research programme, she seeks to refine her research practice and contribute to scholarly conversation. Thibaut also recently joined JLIC as an intern.
