On 13 March 2025, we had the pleasure of attending Anca Parvulescu’s inaugural lecture and welcoming her to VUB and to CLIC as the Lorand Chair in Intermediality 2024-25. Her captivating talk explored the themes of faces and physiognomy in modernism, focusing on Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice. Click here to read an earlier interview with Anca on the subject. Her book Face and Form: Physiognomy in Literary Modernism is set to be published online in August 2025 (Cambridge University Press).
We are excited about the upcoming presentations, discussions, and collaborations with Anca throughout the semester! On 18 June 2025, Anca will participate in the Theory and Methodology workshop organised by MERLIT. More details will follow later.
