CLIC nodigt jullie graag uit voor de eerstvolgende WOLEC-sessie die plaatsvindt op dinsdag 18 november van 12:30 tot ten laatste 14:30 in 5C03. We verwelkomen Caitlin Vandertop (University of Warwick), huidig reviews editor van het tijdschrift Postcolonial Text en voormalig commissioning editor van Literature Compass, voor een meet-and-greet over academisch publiceren. In deze sessie zal Caitlin Vandertop inzicht geven in haar ervaringen als editor, het redactiewerk en praktische tips voor onderzoekers bij het voorbereiden van publicaties.
Deelnemers worden aangemoedigd om vragen mee te nemen die ze graag willen bespreken.
Caitlin Vandertop trad in 2019 toe tot de afdeling Engels en Vergelijkende Letterkunde van Warwick University, nadat ze drie jaar had lesgegeven aan de Laucala-campus van de University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Daarvoor bekleedde ze posities aan universiteiten in Hongkong, Australië, Canada en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Haar werk richt zich op moderne wereldliteratuur en postkoloniale studies, met een bijzondere interesse in Engelstalige literatuur uit de Pacifische regio. Ze heeft zich al gericht op de representatie van koloniale omgevingen, van havensteden tot plantages, en ze is ook geïnteresseerd in de verbanden tussen koloniale literatuurgeschiedenissen, cultureel erfgoed en de extractieve industrieën. Ze is co-redacteur van Commodities and Literature (Cambridge UP, 2025), dat een literaire geschiedenis van het begrip “commodity” onderzoekt en hoofdstukken samenbrengt over de esthetiek, genres en narratieve “levens” van wereldwijde grondstoffen zoals koffie, suiker, opium, guano, olie en lithium. Buiten Warwick werkte ze als commissioning editor voor Literature Compass (2020–2025) en is ze sinds 2019 reviews editor voor het open-access tijdschrift Postcolonial Text.

Caitlin Vandertop joined the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at Warwick University in 2019, after teaching for three years at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala campus in Fiji. Before this, she held positions at universities in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, and the UK. She works in modern world-literary and postcolonial studies, with a special interest in anglophone writing from the Pacific Ocean region. Her research has focused on the representation of colonial environments, from the port city to the plantation. She is also interested in the connections between colonial histories of literature, cultural property, and the extractive industries. She is co-editor of Commodities and Literature (Cambridge UP, 2025), which traces a literary history of the commodity as a concept, bringing together chapters on the aesthetics, genres, and narrative “lives” of global commodities such as coffee, sugar, opium, guano, oil, and lithium. Outside Warwick, she has worked as a commissioning editor for Literature Compass (2020–2025) and serves as reviews editor for the open-access journal Postcolonial Text (2019–present).
