The Anglicists at Vrije Universiteit, among them members of the MERLIT team, are looking forward to welcoming colleagues to Brussels for talks and debates on the (Trans)Portability of English – the language as well as the literature and the culture that come with it. What has shaped English as a language in the world? How was it shaped in turn and continues to be shaped? What concepts does it transport and in what forms? Where is it challenged? Participants can expect an exciting range of papers which tackle these questions from the early modern age to the impact of digital technologies in the 21st century and which take us across national and continental borders (full programme available here). The keynotes by distinguished speakers Madhu Krishnan (Bristol) and Christian Mair (Freiburg) are not to be missed. For more information please visit the BAAHE website.
