CLIC offers structural and individual screenings of funding applications at every research career stage.
European Funding (MSCA, ERC)
CLIC has extensive in-house experience with grant writing for the major European funding channels, and particularly MSCA and ERC. In addition to the centralised offer by VUB Research, CLIC organises application screenings and/or mock interviews for candidates aiming to apply for MSCA or ERC with CLIC/VUB as host institution.
Are you an external researcher interested in making CLIC your next academic base? Please reach out to the Steering Team (Janine Hauthal, Arvi Sepp, Gry Ulstein) or your envisioned supervisor (see our members page) to see what is possible!
FWO – the Flemish Research Council
CLIC organises annual internal screenings of FWO PhD, postdoc (jr./sr.), and project (jr./sr.) grant applications for (prospective) CLIC members. During screenings, senior CLIC members (professors and postdocs) offer written and oral feedback on project applications at two stages of drafting.
Below is an overview of the workflow for the internal screenings, which follows the FWO funding call timeline.
- Purpose of Screening 1: to introduce the project outline (using headings from the FWO template) and get feedback on its originality, preliminary state-of-the-art, and preliminary methodology. The text submitted for feedback should be 3-5 pages and must be sent to the supervisor first for review.
- Purpose of Screening 2: to get feedback on the near-final version of the project outline, with a focus on the soundness of the state-of-the-art and methodology, the feasibility of the work plan, and overall impression of the project. The text submitted for feedback should be 9-10 pages and must be sent to the supervisor first for review.
- Resubmissions: if the application is a resubmission, candidates are advised to include the feedback they were given by the FWO panel. This is voluntary, however, and candidates may also paraphrase the feedback if they prefer.
- Debriefs: upon receiving their feedback from the FWO upon rejection, candidates can join a debrief session during which CLIC will help detangle the feedback and offer strategic advice on how to proceed with the project.
Other funding channels
CLIC can offer tailored screenings and debriefs for other research funding calls (Innoviris, COST Actions, ++) on demand. These screenings typically involve invited (senior) researchers from CLIC, whose expertise is particularly well-positioned to provide feedback on the project.
CLIC members interested in getting their project screened should reach out to the Research Policy Officer (Gry Ulstein).
